Black Excellence San Jose

Going beyond the celebration of individual achievements, Black Excellence is a mindset of leadership through perseverance to advance the Black community.

Jennah - With a dream of being a Division 1 athlete from a young age, Jennah achieved that by playing for SJSU women's soccer. As a Black female athlete, she sees Black Excellence as the act of actively pursuing your dreams and celebrating these achievements.

Yonex - As a self-made entrepreneur, Yonex created the Tank shop to offer exclusive clothing and accessories to the community in San Jose. With San José being home, Yonex made the tank shop to continue putting San José on the map.

Jasmin - A true passionate of the game of basketball and former athlete, Jasmin took her knowledge to the city of San Jose as a Women's Basketball Assistant Coach. She is a living example of the importance of Black Women in sports.

Zo - Alonzo took a bet on himself when the pandemic started and opened his own barbershop. He has not looked back ever since! Beyond being a positive leader and mentor to the community, his barbershop "Zo Blades" has certified him as one of the most popular barbers in Downtown San José, especially for Black Men.

Larry - Originally from Texas, Larry moved to San Jose to learn the physics behind automobiles. With an undying passion for the automotive industry, he became the owner of Townsend's Automotive, a Black-owned auto repair shop in the heart of San Jose.

Caleb - Mr. San José himself, an advocate for social justice, diversity, equity and inclusion, a natural-born leader and captain of San José State University Men's Basketball team. Caleb has led several protests in the Bay Area and Phoenix, Arizona and he is currently utilizing his skillset in collegiate athletics sports administration to promote black excellence and inspire the youth.
